Self-monitoring personality reflects the differences in the tendency and ability of the adjustment to self presentation and behavior resulting from external context and interpersonal relationship that the individuals focus on, and this individual difference has an important impact on people’s behavior and performance in organizations. Based on the elaboration of the concept and measurement instruments of self-monitoring personality, this paper reviews the existing research from the perspectives of attitude and behavior, social networks and job performance, then establishes a systematic research framework, and puts forward some suggestions about the clarification of the self-monitoring concept of Chinese people and the development of its corresponding measurement instruments, the expansion of the research content and level, and broadening the interaction between situational variables at different levels. It makes great contributions to a grasp of the context and future directions of self-monitoring personality research under the background of organizational management.
