As data have become a pivotal factor of production reshaping the landscape of production and competition, how to effectively promote corporate data assetization has emerged as a critical and urgent question. Leveraging data from Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed companies from 2007 to 2024, this paper examines the impact of financial shared service centers (FSSCs) on corporate data assetization. The empirical findings demonstrate that the establishment of FSSCs significantly promotes data assetization, with the effect strengthening as FSSCs operate for a longer period. Mechanism testing reveals that FSSCs effectively drive data assetization by strengthening data governance capabilities, improving data quality, and enhancing internal data flow efficiency. Heterogeneity analysis shows that this effect is more pronounced in firms with complex internal organizational structures and lower levels of business diversification, as well as in regions with more developed data factor markets and stronger intellectual property protection. Further analysis of economic consequences indicates that FSSCs significantly improve corporate total factor productivity by elevating the level of data assetization. This paper not only broadens the research perspective on the drivers of data assetization but also provides practical implications for firms seeking to optimize organizational structures and strengthen data asset management.
